How to make a slowed + reverb song

  1. Choose a song: MP3, WAV or M4A, up to 10 minutes.
  2. Press play and move the Speed slider. 0.85× is the classic sound; lower is dreamier.
  3. Turn up the Reverb, and add Bass boost if you want more weight.
  4. Press Make slowed + reverb WAV and download your version.

Why slowed + reverb sounds the way it does

Slowing a song down the simple way, by playing it back slower, lowers the pitch along with the tempo. At 0.85× everything drops by about 2.8 semitones. Voices get deeper and a little hazy, drums hit heavier and longer, and the whole track relaxes. Nothing is cut or stretched, so the audio stays smooth.

Reverb fills the extra space that slowing down leaves between notes. A long, dark reverb pushes the music back, as if it’s playing in a big empty hall or coming from the next room, and that distance is what gives the style its nostalgic, late-night feel. The idea goes back to chopped and screwed, the slowed-down DJ style DJ Screw made famous in Houston in the 1990s. Slowed + reverb edits became a YouTube and TikTok staple in the late 2010s.

Good settings to start with

Dreamy0.78×65%+2 dBBallads and ambient tracks
Subtle0.92×25%OffFast songs and rap verses
Heavy0.80×50%+6 dBHip-hop and trap beats

Go easy on bass boost with trap and drill, which already carry a lot of 808. Slowing them down moves that energy even lower, and too much boost can make phone speakers rattle and earbuds distort. The reverb here is a generated hall about three seconds long that gets darker as it fades, so even high settings won’t turn harsh.

TipWant it slower but in the original key? Use the BPM changer with Keep pitch, or shift the key back up afterwards with the pitch shifter.

FAQ

What speed is best for slowed + reverb?

Most slowed + reverb edits sit between 0.8× and 0.9×. 0.85× is the classic sound: noticeably slower and deeper without the vocals turning muddy. Go down to 0.75× or below for a dreamier, heavier version.

Does slowing a song down change the pitch?

Here it does, on purpose. Slowed + reverb works like a turntable at a lower speed, so tempo and pitch drop together, and that deeper sound is a big part of the style. If you want a slower song in the original key, use the BPM changer with Keep pitch on.

Is it free, and is my song uploaded?

It’s free with no sign-up. Nothing is uploaded: the preview and the WAV are both made inside your browser, so your file never leaves your device.

Can I post slowed + reverb songs on YouTube or TikTok?

A slowed version of someone else’s song is still their song, so platforms can mute it, block it or claim the money it earns. To be safe, use your own music or get permission from whoever owns the track.

Why is the WAV file so big?

WAV is uncompressed, so it’s about 10 MB for every minute of stereo audio, and a slowed song is longer than the original. That’s the best quality to keep editing or upload. You can turn it into an MP3 afterwards if you need a smaller file.

How do I make a sped up version instead?

Use the BPM changer, set the speed to around 115% to 130% and choose Change pitch with speed. That gives you the higher, faster sound of sped up and nightcore edits.
